METAL recyclers mysteriously experiencing a sudden abundance of copper wire were buying stolen goods from a Narrabeen man to feed his $500-a-day heroin habit.
At Manly Court yesterday Nathan Vincent Pangallo was convicted of 38 charges of giving suspected stolen goods to another person between December 5, 2006, and March 30 last year.
The 26-year-old, who originally denied the charges, also pleaded guilty to receiving and disposing of stolen property, steal property as a clerk or servant, four counts of entering enclosed lands and two counts of larceny.
Pangallo came to the attention of police investigating a wave of copper wire thefts after he sold almost 3500kg of it worth $14,800 to scrap metal recyclers.
Yesterday Manly Court heard Pangallo, who was on $1000 bail, was in a drug rehab program.
He is expected to be sentenced on June 21.
