Pile-up caused by drink- driver
8 May 2008
A BELROSE woman who caused a four-car pile-up on Mona Vale Rd then gave a blood alcohol reading of 0.21 was not supposed to be driving without an interlock device fitted to her car.
Court documents reveal that a condition of Janelle Carol Sardelic's licence was that she only drive cars fitted with the special breath tester.
The test devices, which are issued by courts, prevent a vehicle from being started if alcohol is detected on the driver's breath.
Sardelic, 40, of Forest Way, was participating in the interlock program, even though her licence was suspended, when she rammed into the back of a car at Pymble on April 16.
Four vehicles that were stationary at a set of lights were damaged, but no one was injured.
Sardelic was then seen to get out of her car, get into one of the other damaged vehicles and try to drive away.
She was stopped by police and returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.21.
Sardelic pleaded guilty yesterday to high-range drink-driving, disobeying licence conditions, driving while suspended and taking the other driver's vehicle without permission.
The case was adjourned in Hornsby Local Court to June 25 so Sardelic can begin some form of rehabilitation and take part in the traffic offenders' program.
