Sausage glass: pet owners panic
John Morcombe
9 May 2008
THERE is growing fear among Allambie Heights pet owners following the discovery in the area of sausages laced with glass splinters.
One man's cat has brought home five laced sausages and yesterday a woman called The Manly Daily fearing her dog may have been the victim of the same cruel treatment.
The woman, Liz, said her greyhound cross Lexi suddenly collapsed in the family car two weeks ago, bleeding from her behind.
She rushed her unconscious dog to the Pittwater Animal Hospital, where it was given oxygen and an X-ray and put on a drip.
Dr Bryn Lynar said that luckily Lexi had not eaten glass, but vets across the area in Allambie Heights, Beacon Hill and Brookvale are all now on alert.
Dr Mahmoud Kalil, of the Beacon Hill Veterinary Hospital, said he would immediately report any incident to the police.
"I hope they catch this person," he said. "What they are doing is very cruel."
The man whose cat has brought home some spiked sausages says it is more likely a dog would eat them.
Liz said her dog would be one of those that "just gobbled it down".
